ISAIAH, CHAPTER 16, VS 9-14

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 16, VS 9-14,

“Therefore I will bewail with the weeping of Jazer the vine of Sibmah: I will water thee with my tears, O Heshbon, and Elealeh: for the shouting for thy summer fruits and for thy harvest is fallen.

10 And gladness is taken away, and joy out of the plentiful field; and in the vineyards there shall be no singing, neither shall there be shouting: the treaders shall tread out no wine in their presses; I have made their vintage shouting to cease.

11 Wherefore my bowels shall sound like an harp for Moab, and mine inward parts for Kirharesh.

12 And it shall come to pass, when it is seen that Moab is weary on the high place, that he shall come to his sanctuary to pray; but he shall not prevail.

13 This is the word that the Lord hath spoken concerning Moab since that time.

14 But now the Lord hath spoken, saying, Within three years, as the years of an hireling, and the glory of Moab shall be contemned, with all that great multitude; and the remnant shall be very small and feeble.”

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 16, VS 9-14

v. 9– The Lord is very hurt by His people going the way of the world and their weaknesses.

v. 10– The gladness is taken away from us when we don’t walk totally with the Lord. Anytime we let our “vines” wander along the ground we will lose that blissful Joy that comes with walking the high ground with Our Lord!

v. 11-14– There has been a time when most of God’s people were in this position. Although a remnant always stayed close to Him, most of the churches deviated drastically from their potential with the Lord, and He is mourning for us.

The word for “contemned” is to be light, worth-less–In this state, with our hearts not totally on Him, we are more light and worth less than we would be if we were connected with Our Lord as we should be. And even the remnant who were with Him right along were relatively feeble because of their small numbers, but powerful in His Strength.
