ISAIAH, CHAPTER 39

CHAPTER 39

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 39, VS 1-8

1 At that time Merodochbaladan, the son of Baladan, King of Babylon, sent letters and a present to Hezekiah: for he had heard that he had been sick and was recovered.

2 And Hezekiah was glad of them, and shewed them the house of his precious things, the silver, and the gold, and the spices, and the precious ointment, and all the house of his armour, and all that was found in his treasures: there was nothing in his house, nor in all his dominion, that Hezekiah shewed them not.

3 Then came Isaiah the prophet unto king Hezekiah, and said unto him, What said these men? and from whence came they unto thee? And Hezekiah said, They are come from a far country unto me, even from Babylon.

4 Then said he, What have they seen in thine house? And Hezekiah answered, All that is in mine house have they seen: there is nothing among my treasures that I have not shewed them.

5 Then said Isaiah to Hezekiah, Hear the word of the Lord of hosts:

6 Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store until this day, shall be carried to Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the Lord.

7 And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.

8 Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good is the word of the Lord which thou hast spoken. He said moreover, For there shall be peace and truth in my days.”

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 39, VS 1-8

When Isaiah told Hezekiah this, he was apparently still a young man, with no children, as Isaiah spoke of the children he will have. He knew he only had 15 years to live. He was resigned to the will of God in all things concerning his life. Therefore, when he heard these words, he said the Lord’s Word is good—-He trusted the Lord in all things, and had the same faith Job had, “The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away, blessed be the Name of the Lord” This should be our attitude also, as we are just visitors in this world, and just using the things and relationships in it for a short time. Our relationship with Jesus Christ is all that matters, and submission to His Will and obedience to it are our only goals.

ISAIAH, CHAPTER 38

CHAPTER 38

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 38, VS1-8

1In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz came unto him, and said unto him, Thus saith the Lord, Set thine house in order: for thou shalt die, and not live.

2 Then Hezekiah turned his face toward the wall, and prayed unto the Lord,

3 And said, Remember now, O Lord, I beseech thee, how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

4 Then came the word of the Lord to Isaiah, saying,

5 Go, and say to Hezekiah, Thus saith the Lord, the God of David thy father, I have heard thy prayer, I have seen thy tears: behold, I will add unto thy days fifteen years.

6 And I will deliver thee and this city out of the hand of the king of Assyria: and I will defend this city.

7 And this shall be a sign unto thee from the Lord, that the Lord will do this thing that he hath spoken;

8 Behold, I will bring again the shadow of the degrees, which is gone down in the sun dial of Ahaz, ten degrees backward. So the sun returned ten degrees, by which degrees it was gone down.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 38, VS 1-8

“In those days”…What days? We are to assume it was the same time as the previous two chapters when his city was being threatened by the king of Assyria, which we symbolized as the devil threatening a Believer. To continue in that mode, on top of the demonic attacks and depression, he found out he had a fatal illness. As he had prayed, or was at that time praying for his city, he also prayed for a longer life to Praise the Lord and live for Him. He was a humble person who loved the Lord. God heard him on both prayers. He saved his city (got satan off his back) and healed him, adding 15 years to his life. As proof, He set the clock back, we assume, for the time of his prayer. Many times in our lives, things come on us all at once, and we feel like the bottom fell out of our lives. Turning honestly, humbly to Our Lord, will always bring results that are in His will. This may not look like it to us, but we don’t know His will from His eternal eyes. He will ALWAYS do the best for us for eternity!

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 38, VS 9-22

9 The writing of Hezekiah king of Judah, when he had been sick, and was recovered of his sickness:

10 I said in the cutting off of my days, I shall go to the gates of the grave: I am deprived of the residue of my years.

11 I said, I shall not see the Lord, even the Lord, in the land of the living: I shall behold man no more with the inhabitants of the world.

12 Mine age is departed, and is removed from me as a shepherd’s tent: I have cut off like a weaver my life: he will cut me off with pining sickness: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me.

13 I reckoned till morning, that, as a lion, so will he break all my bones: from day even to night wilt thou make an end of me.

14 Like a crane or a swallow, so did I chatter: I did mourn as a dove: mine eyes fail with looking upward: O Lord, I am oppressed; undertake for me.

15 What shall I say? he hath both spoken unto me, and himself hath done it: I shall go softly all my years in the bitterness of my soul.

16 O Lord, by these things men live, and in all these things is the life of my spirit: so wilt thou recover me, and make me to live.

17 Behold, for peace I had great bitterness: but thou hast in love to my soul delivered it from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sins behind thy back.”

18For the grave cannot praise thee, death can not celebrate thee: they that go down into the pit cannot hope for thy truth.

19 The living, the living, he shall praise thee, as I do this day: the father to the children shall make known thy truth.”

20 The Lord was ready to save me: therefore we will sing my songs to the stringed instruments all the days of our life in the house of the Lord.

21 For Isaiah had said, Let them take a lump of figs, and lay it for a plaster upon the boil, and he shall recover.

22 Hezekiah also had said, What is the sign that I shall go up to the house of the Lord?

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 38, VS 9-22

This is King Hezekiah’s testimony about those days, when the bottom fell out of his life. He was under attack from the King of Assyria (in our lives, this is satan’s messengers attacking us personally), he was depressed, and terminally ill. He regretted not having a longer life to serve the Lord and his people. He was a humble man, and he laid himself bare before the Lord, as we must do in our lives. Then He praises the Lord for His wonderful salvation, healing, and protection. Notice, in verse 20, instead of saying that he deserved these things, or that his prayers brought them about, he says, “The Lord was ready to save me.” In other words, He had submitted to the Lord’s Perfect Plan, and humbled himself in repentance, accepting the verdict from the Lord, and it was God’s decision that He was ready to do this.

END OF CHAPTER 38

ISAIAH, CHAPTER 37

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 37, VS 1-21

1 And it came to pass, when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes, and covered himself with sackcloth, and went into the house of the Lord.

2 And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and the elders of the priests covered with sackcloth, unto Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.

3 And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of blasphemy: for the children are come to the birth, and there is not strength to bring forth.

4 It may be the Lord thy God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master hath sent to reproach the living God, and will reprove the words which the Lord thy God hath heard: wherefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that is left.

5 So the servants of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

6 And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say unto your master, Thus saith the Lord, Be not afraid of the words that thou hast heard, wherewith the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

7 Behold, I will send a blast upon him, and he shall hear a rumour, and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.

8 So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah: for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.

9 And he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He is come forth to make war with thee. And when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

10 Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Let not thy God, in whom thou trustest, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

11 Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them utterly; and shalt thou be delivered?

12 Have the gods of the nations delivered them which my fathers have destroyed, as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden which were in Telassar?

13 Where is the king of Hamath, and the king of Arphad, and the king of the city of Sepharvaim, Hena, and Ivah?

14 And Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it: and Hezekiah went up unto the house of the Lord, and spread it before the Lord.

15 And Hezekiah prayed unto the Lord, saying,

16 O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth.

17 Incline thine ear, O Lord, and hear; open thine eyes, O Lord, and see: and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent to reproach the living God.

18 Of a truth, Lord, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations, and their countries,

19 And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them.

20 Now therefore, O Lord our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the Lord, even thou only.

21 Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent unto Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Whereas thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria:”

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 37, VS 1-21

1-4 When Hezekiah heard, he thought all was lost, but he sent messengers to Isaiah, the prophet, to see if the Lord would come to their rescue. In the symbolism, the Christian, who is so weak, tired, depressed, is praying earnestly for the Lord to get rid of the “devil on his shoulder!” 5-7 Isaiah, speaking for the Lord God, as a prophet, says not to fear the words of lies that you’re hearing. He says, He, (the Lord) will take care of the King of Assyria (the devil) and his people. 8-13—the devil always responds with more lies. Here, he says, “look at all the people I have killed, and dragged down so they deny their God. Ha ha. What makes you think you’ll be different! You’re too weak even to have faith! Ha ha.”14-20. A beautiful prayer of a king and a Christian—depending entirely on His God! And the rest, as they say, is history! God came to his rescue, as He comes to ours. PRAISE THE LORD!

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 37, VS 22-29

“22 This is the word which the Lord hath spoken concerning him; The virgin, the daughter of Zion, hath despised thee, and laughed thee to scorn; the daughter of Jerusalem hath shaken her head at thee.

23 Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice, and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.

24 By thy servants hast thou reproached the Lord, and hast said, By the multitude of my chariots am I come up to the height of the mountains, to the sides of Lebanon; and I will cut down the tall cedars thereof, and the choice fir trees thereof: and I will enter into the height of his border, and the forest of his Carmel.

25 I have digged, and drunk water; and with the sole of my feet have I dried up all the rivers of the besieged places.

26 Hast thou not heard long ago, how I have done it; and of ancient times, that I have formed it? now have I brought it to pass, that thou shouldest be to lay waste defenced cities into ruinous heaps.

27 Therefore their inhabitants were of small power, they were dismayed and confounded: they were as the grass of the field, and as the green herb, as the grass on the housetops, and as corn blasted before it be grown up.

28 But I know thy abode, and thy going out, and thy coming in, and thy rage against me.

29 Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult, is come up into mine ears, therefore will I put my hook in thy nose, and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou camest.

30 And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such as groweth of itself; and the second year that which springeth of the same: and in the third year sow ye, and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat the fruit thereof.

31 And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward, and bear fruit upward:

32 For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the Lord of hosts shall do this.

33 Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it.

34 By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the Lord.

35 For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake, and for my servant David’s sake.

36 Then the angel of the Lord went forth, and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and fourscore and five thousand: and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

37 So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed, and went and returned, and dwelt at Nineveh.

38 And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Armenia: and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.”

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 37, VS 30-38

He speaks to satan directly, and reminds him of his total defeat at calvary, and the painful eternity he will spend at the end of time, and he slinks off, to tell his lies another time. Pay special attention to verses 33-35. This is Our Lord’s promise to each of His Redeemed (city=believer). Our Lord will always come to our aid when we turn to Him in complete humility and repentance. He will always flex His muscles against satan and his minions when we call upon Him. James 4:7

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

END OF CHAPTER 37

ISAIAH, CHAPTER 36

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 36, VS 1-4

1 Now it came to pass in the fourteenth year of King Hezekiah, that Sennacherib king of Assyria came up against all the defenced cities of Judah, and took them.

2 And the king of Assyria sent Rabshakeh from Lachish to Jerusalem unto king Hezekiah with a great army. And he stood by the conduit of the upper pool in the highway of the fuller’s field.

3 Then came forth unto him Eliakim, Hilkiah’s son, which was over the house, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, Asaph’s son, the recorder.

4 And Rabshakeh said unto them, Say ye now to Hezekiah, Thus saith the great king, the king of Assyria, What confidence is this wherein thou trustest?

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 36, VS 1-4

The king of Assyria is satan, and he sends messengers to us with much the same words, “what confidence is this wherein thou trustest?” In other words, “Why is this Jesus so great that you trust in Him? You are a fool! He won’t help you.”

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 36, VS 5

I say, sayest thou, (but they are but vain words) I have counsel and strength for war. Now, on whom dost thou trust, that thou rebellest against me?

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 36, VS 5

He goes on taunting, saying, in effect, “You say you have the counsel and strength, but I know better, now, where really is your strength?”

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 36, VS 6

“6 Lo, thou trustest in the staff of this broken reed, on Egypt; whereon if a man lean, it will go into his hand, and pierce it: so is Pharaoh king of Egypt to all that trust in him.”

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 36, VS 6

He goes on, saying, in effect, “You can’t even trust your neighbor, or even your fellow Christian, because they’ll double-cross you, what do you think Jesus can do about that?”

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 36, VS 7

But if thou say to me, We trust in the Lord our God: is it not he, whose high places and whose altars Hezekiah hath taken away, and said to Judah and to Jerusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?”

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 36, VS 7

Satan’s messenger goes on in his conversation with the Christian: “and if you think God can be trusted, look, even those in the past who were one with Him in spirit aren’t anymore. The peoples’ real trust is gone, the real altars are taken down and people aren’t powerful anymore. He has betrayed His people. You have no power against me.”

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 36, VS 8

Now therefore give pledges, I pray thee, to my master the king of Assyria, and I will give thee two thousand horses, if thou be able on thy part to set riders upon them.”

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 36, VS 8

“so, you might as well give up trying to fight him. God’s not going to help you. He’ll give you what you need in life. All God does is make you sacrifice. You’ll be comfortable if you’ll just give up struggling to trust in God, and enjoy life.”, says satan’s messenger.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 36, VS 9

“How then wilt thou turn away the face of one captain of the least of my master’s servants, and put thy trust on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?”

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 36, VS 9

So continues the messenger of satan: “You are arguing with me, pretending to trust in your God, but in truth, you trust in this world system for all your material things, do you not? You are a hypocrite! God knows that, and He won’t stand by you when you double-cross Him and lie to Him!

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 36, VS 10

And am I now come up without the Lord against this land to destroy it? The Lord said unto me, “Go up against this land and destroy it.”

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 36, VS 10

After a pause to let that sink in, the messenger of satan continues: You are sinful, and your God knows it. He not only won’t answer your prayer, he has, in fact, given you into the hands of my master for destruction. Does it not say in 1 Corinthians 5:5

“To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.” Ha ha. You see, I am only doing the work of YOUR GOD!!! HA HA

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 36, VS 11

Then said Eliakim and Shebna and Joah unto Rabshakeh, Speak, I pray thee, unto thy servants in the Syrian language; for we understand it: and speak not to us in the Jews’ language, in the ears of the people that are on the wall.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 36, VS 11

Now the Christian (the representatives of King Hezekiah) reaches for his faith. He says, “Your fight is with Jesus, My Lord, and my New Creation nature, not with the weakness of my old nature.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 36, VS 12

But Rabshakeh said, Hath my master sent me to thy master and to thee to speak these words? hath he not sent me to the men that sit upon the wall, that they may eat their own dung, and drink their own piss with you?”

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 36, VS 12

But satan’s messenger says, “No, I am speaking to you, for you are not a new creation, your God has forsaken you in your sins. Ha ha”

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 36, VS 13-20

Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews’ language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria.

14 Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you.

15 Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord, saying, The Lord will surely deliver us: this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria.

16 Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me: and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own cistern;

17 Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards.

18 Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, the Lord will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?

19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arphad? where are the gods of Sepharvaim? and have they delivered Samaria out of my hand?

20 Who are they among all the gods of these lands, that have delivered their land out of my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?”

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 36, VS 13-20

13-20 So satan’s messenger goes into a long argument, speaking, not to our knowledge of and faith in, Our Lord Jesus Christ, but to the trampled down, weak humanity that he has dragged us into again.(the people on the wall). He keeps saying that Jesus Christ has forsaken us, and with good cause, because of our sin and weakness.

SCRIPTURE; CHAPTER 36, VS 21-22

21 But they held their peace, and answered him not a word: for the king’s commandment was, saying, Answer him not.

22 Then came Eliakim, the son of Hilkiah, that was over the household, and Shebna the scribe, and Joah, the son of Asaph, the recorder, to Hezekiah with their clothes rent, and told him the words of Rabshakeh.”

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 36, VS 21-22

The Christian in this conversation is so low that he can’t think or speak. He keeps silent, and in His spirit, confides in the Lord Jesus Christ in desperation. He “rents his clothes”, which is a symbol of desperation and humility. This is where the Lord wants us to be—-knowing we cannot get strength from the world, from ourselves, or from others, but only from Him. We don’t need to argue with satan or his messengers. Only God’s True Word will be a weapon against Him, and we need to get that from the Source!

END OF CHAPTER 36

ISAIAH, CHAPTER 35

CHAPTER 35

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 35, VS 1-5

1The wilderness and the solitary place shall be glad for them; and the desert shall rejoice, and blossom as the rose.

2 It shall blossom abundantly, and rejoice even with joy and singing: the glory of Lebanon shall be given unto it, the excellency of Carmel and Sharon, they shall see the glory of the Lord, and the excellency of our God.

3 Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees.

4 Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompence; he will come and save you.

5 Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 35, VS 1-5

This entire chapter describes what is waiting for the Redeemed, after enduring to the end. God’s Great Plan of Redemption will have come full circle, and we will be on the New Earth, which will be like the Garden of Eden, with the perfect life and Jesus will rule personally!!! It will be beautiful, and we will be young and healthy. So, we should encourage people with these words, and with this promise. In 34:16-17 above, He said to seek out the promises and hold onto them. These are some of them.

Jesus told the thief on the cross that TODAY he will be with Him in paradise! There is no time with God, so all these things have happened already, since He has already conquered satan on the cross. No one will be waiting for loved ones. We will all be there at the same time, when time, as we know it, from our perspective, ends! PRAISE THE LORD!!!

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 35, VS 6-8

6 Then shall the lame man leap as an hart, and the tongue of the dumb sing: for in the wilderness shall waters break out, and streams in the desert.

7 And the parched ground shall become a pool, and the thirsty land springs of water: in the habitation of dragons, where each lay, shall be grass with reeds and rushes.

8 And an highway shall be there, and a way, and it shall be called The way of holiness; the unclean shall not pass over it; but it shall be for those: the wayfaring men, though fools, shall not err therein.”

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 35, VS 6-8

In that place, the ground that was cursed because of Adam’s sin, and what we’ve lived with since, will be no more. The New Earth will be moist, rich, and fertile, with no weeds, which were also a curse of sin. The best part is verse 8, where we will only walk the highway of holiness, and the unclean (unsaved, evil men) will not be there. We can trust everyone, because Jesus will be in them, and we won’t be influenced by our old selves, our weaknesses, or the lies of satan—-these will be all gone. It will be all Jesus! PRAISE THE LORD!

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 35, VS 9-10

9 No lion shall be there, nor any ravenous beast shall go up thereon, it shall not be found there; but the redeemed shall walk there:

10 And the ransomed of the Lord shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 35, VS 9-10

This is where the animals will be all peaceful (Isaiah 11:6 &7) There shall be no ravenous beast there, only gentle ones. Animals are influenced by the angels or demons around us in the spiritual world, the same as we are. There are animals of the same species who are gentle, caring, and loving, and some who, not by their own choice, are ravenous, due to their past experiences, or usage by demonic spirits. He isn’t saying there won’t be animals there, He is saying that the ones that are there will be influenced by Jesus Himself, because He will be the only influence there!

The ransomed of the Lord are, not only gentile Christians, but the Chosen People, who will have their blindness taken away, and they will recognize Jesus as their Messiah!!! PRAISE THE LORD FOREVER!!

END OF CHAPTER 35

ISAIAH, CHAPTER 34

ISAIAH CHAPTER 34, ENTIRE CHAPTER

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 34, VS 1-4

1 Come near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken, ye people: let the earth hear, and all that is therein; the world, and all things that come forth of it.

2 For the indignation of the Lord is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter.

3 Their slain also shall be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcases, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood.

4 And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 34, VS 1-4

1 All inhabitants of the earth—listen!!! 2-4 This is describing the “Day of the Lord” when He judges all people, recreates the heavens and earth, and resurrects and takes His people to be with Him forever.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 34, VS 5-6

5 For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment.

6 The sword of the Lord is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the Lord hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 34, VS 5-6

5 The word that the word for sword was derived from denotes a lack of water, a drought, and the barrenness after a drought. We are the swords of God. We were dry until we were filled with the Holy Spirit and “bathed in heaven” 6 The Lord is fed up with “fatness” of the people—loving the pleasures of this world and hypocritically offering sacrifices to Him without giving Him their hearts. (Deuteronomy 10:16)

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 34, VS 7 &8

7 And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.

8 For it is the day of the Lord’s vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 34, VS 7-8

These people will go down with their worldly possessions, because He wants our total attention on Him, not on the things of this world.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 34, VS 9-10

9 And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch.

10 It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 34, VS 9-10

The streams of Jesus Living Water, which each of us could get from Him, when someone turns from Him with no repentance, in favor of the things of this world, the streams become rivers of pitch, or passageways for satan’s lies instead of Christ’s loving messages, then our souls “lie waste”.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 34, VS 11-13

11 But the cormorant and the bittern shall possess it; the owl also and the raven shall dwell in it: and he shall stretch out upon it the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness.

12 They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none shall be there, and all her princes shall be nothing.

13 And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an habitation of dragons, and a court for owls.”

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 34, VS 11-13

11 satan’s demons will possess these people, they will nurture confusion and emptiness, which we always feel without Christ. 12-13 And these people will look to leaders of this world, and of nominal churches, and none will answer the problem, for these, too, are the domain of the emotions and materialistic mindset.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 34, VS 14-15

14 The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; and the screech owl also shall find rest there, and find for herself a place of rest.

15 There shall the great owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: there shall the vultures also be gathered, every one with her mate.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 34, VS 14-15

“The wild beasts of the desert shall meet with the wild beasts of the island” When God’s people stray from Him, and don’t see Him through spiritual eyes, they come down to the level of this world, and its hard sometimes to tell a Christian from a non believer. They shall “meet”. Christians should stand out in the world with their love, and not be, nor appear to be, a part of the rest of the world. Owls have a habit of inhabiting other birds’ abandoned nests. When we vacate our hearts of the constant companionship of Jesus, owls (representative of satan’s influence, whether in small or large amounts) will move in and nest, and these influences will grow if our hearts aren’t occupied with the things of God and the Fruits of the Spirit.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 34, VS 16-17

16. Seek ye out of the book of the Lord, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath garnered them.

17 And he hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath divided it unto them by line: they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation shall they dwell therein.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 34, VS 16-17

God challenges His people to look in His Book, and find His promises and assures us that every one He will keep. These are beautiful verses of reassurance for us. Everything in His Word will find its mate in reality, for everything God says will come about!! He commands it, and the Holy Spirit brings it about in our lives, provided we are totally abandoned to Him. In verse 17, He tells of the sacrifice Jesus made to bring us these promises, and how much of it was fulfilled, line by line, in His time on earth, and all of that is given to us, and to our descendents, as we dwell in Him.

ISAIAH, CHAPTER 33, VS 19-24

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 33, VS 19-21

19. Thou shalt not see a fierce people, a people of a deeper speech than thou canst perceive; of a stammering tongue, that thou canst not understand.

20 Look upon Zion, the city of our solemnities: thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet habitation, a tabernacle that shall not be taken down; not one of the stakes thereof shall ever be removed, neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken.

21 But there the glorious Lord will be unto us a place of broad rivers and streams; wherein shall go no galley with oars, neither shall gallant ship pass thereby”.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 33, VS 19-21

19 God’s people are not strong of ourselves, or fierce, and not more intelligent. He uses ordinary people. 20 God will never break His ties with His people!! 21 The Holy Spirit gives us peace, like a calm river, with no waves from ships.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 33, VS 22

22 For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; he will ave us.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 33, VS 22

22 He will save us, and He has saved us! We need to endure to the end, and be with Him for eternity. (Matthew 10:22 and 24:13; Mark 13:13; John 6:27; Hebrews 6:15; James 1:12). This seems like a good time to talk about the “once saved, always saved” doctrinal teaching. The basis of our salvation is not a prayer said once in our lives, but a spiritual change that the Lord made in us because we gave ourselves totally to Him…not just once, but day by day throughout our lives…growing closer to Him with every breath we take. That is the enduring which the Word talks about. It’s making Him more and more a part of us, and us of Him, each moment of our lives. That is not “works”, as some would argue, but a deeper walk with Him, knowing full well that we could never do any of it alone, and knowing that fact more and more as our lives proceed in Him. He is not only our Savior, He is our judge too. The need for repentance doesn’t end with accepting His position as Savior in our lives, we still need to stand before Him for everything we do and think. Forgiveness isn’t automatic. Repentance is still necessary—-for our entire life on this earth.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 33, VS 23

  1. Thy tacklings are loosed; they could not well strengthen their mast, they could not spread the sail: then is the prey of the great spoil divided; the lame take the prey.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 33, VS 23

Our enemies cannot overpower God’s people! Though we appear lame to them by the world’s standards, we are powerful through Christ!

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 33, VS 24

And the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 33, VS 24

Our sins are forgiven as we look to His guidance for everything we do, confess our faults, and endure with Him until the end. Praise the Lord!!
