ISAIAH CHAPTER 28, VERSES 13-29

ISAIAH, CHAPTER 28, VERSES 13-29

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 28, VS 13

But the word of the Lord was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 28, VS 13

All of the Promises of God are in His Word. It is written in such a way that it cannot be discerned through the mind. This is what He means by “Precept upon precept”–There are deeper meanings in all of God’s written Words that can only come to each of us through the Spirit–we must go to Him with our spirits, not merely our minds–to ask for these revelations. There are millions of volumes of books of knowledge between each word of the Bible! He wants to reveal it to us! But anyone who reads it with their mind will be snared and fall backward, because it wasn’t meant to be read that way. This is how the pharisees read it, and we see what Jesus thought of them!

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 28, VS 14-15

Wherefore hear the word of the Lord, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.

15 Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 28, VS 14-15

He is still speaking of the Leaders of the Church. They have been so fooled by satan that they have hidden behind his lies and feel secure there. We hear from many denominations very narrow-minded things that say, in effect, that unless we become their denomination, we can’t be saved. They have hidden behind the lies of their doctrines, rituals and rules so long they have lost track of the real Grace of Salvation. They have lost sight of the necessity of knowing Jesus Christ personally, and being guided by Him in all things.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 28, VS 16-19

Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.

17 Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.

18 And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.

19 From the time that it goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only to understand the report.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 28, VS 16-19

v. 16– But God has sent Jesus for our Salvation–He was tried, tested, and came out strong–He is worthy of all our Glory!!

v. 17– When we rely on a simple and true reliance on God’s Offer of Salvation through Christ, the lies of Satan will not be our refuge anymore–It will all be washed away with the Living Water and we will be swept out of our hiding places!!

v. 18– Our old covenant with satan is disannulled through Jesus when we bare our souls to Him and be honest with Him. We will pass through the transformation and will be “trodden down”–we are crucified with Christ every day, as we “trod down” our former selves.

v. 19– Once we accept Jesus, each day we are crucified with Him, victorious through Him, and resurrected by Him. Each day we understand Him more, and become a little more like Him, and a little less like the way we used to be!! It makes each new day unbelievably exciting!!!!!

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 28, VS 20&21

For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it: and the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself in it.

21 For the Lord shall rise up as in mount Perazim, he shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his strange work; and bring to pass his act, his strange act.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 28, VS 20&21

v. 20– “The bed is shorter …than ..a man •.” We cannot understand these things ourselves. We must ask God to reveal them to our spirit. In anything, when we try to do it ourselves, we will fall short. The flesh, like the bed described, will not hold us

21– He will chastise each of us–He will correct us when needed and guide us and mold us to use us to accomplish His plan. We can be so eternally glad that He does this, for it shows His great love for us!

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 28, VS 22-29

Now therefore be ye not mockers, lest your bands be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord God of hosts a consumption, even determined upon the whole earth.

23 Give ye ear, and hear my voice; hearken, and hear my speech.

24 Doth the plowman plow all day to sow? doth he open and break the clods of his ground?

25 When he hath made plain the face thereof, doth he not cast abroad the fitches, and scatter the cummin, and cast in the principal wheat and the appointed barley and the rie in their place?

26 For his God doth instruct him to discretion, and doth teach him.

27 For the fitches are not threshed with a threshing instrument, neither is a cart wheel turned about upon the cummin; but the fitches are beaten out with a staff, and the cummin with a rod.

28 Bread corn is bruised; because he will not ever be threshing it, nor break it with the wheel of his cart, nor bruise it with his horsemen.

29 This also comes forth from the Lord of hosts, which is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in working.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 28, VS 22-29

Oxen thresh grain with hooves and men separate kernels from straw.

v. 22-29– This group of verses is a beautiful explanation of God’s individual love and guidance for each of us. Just as it describes the individual planting and threshing methods of each type of seed, so He plants the seeds of His love and knowledge of Him differently in each of us. Also, He plants different seeds in each of us. Some have a talent or spiritual drawing toward one thing, and others to something else, but we share all as the Body of Christ, to give the Body strength. It is as God making a cake. He says–“Some of my people think they should each contribute a piece of the cake. But this is not My way!! I give each one an ingredient, and together you mix to make the cake. If it were otherwise, with a member missing the cake would be complete, though smaller. When you are each an ingredient, the cake is incomplete with one member missing, and each one is incomplete and thus humble without the rest”.

John 6:21–“Then they willingly received Him into the ship, and immediately the ship was at the land whither they went.” When we willingly receive Jesus, as His disciples did into the boat, into our lives, we are where we are going. We are in heaven spiritually –with all the power of God in us through Jesus and our spirits are immediately changed and perfected–our boat is where it’s going!! As for our mind and emotions (souls) they day by day become trained and perfected in the knowledge of Our Lord.

In the experience of our relationship to Our Lord, He deals with us individually, also,…in the “threshing” process, as in verses 27 and 28, using sometimes shocking methods, and sometimes gentle methods, depending upon what He knows is best for each of us.
