ISAIAH, CHAPTER 34

ISAIAH CHAPTER 34, ENTIRE CHAPTER

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 34, VS 1-4

1 Come near, ye nations, to hear; and hearken, ye people: let the earth hear, and all that is therein; the world, and all things that come forth of it.

2 For the indignation of the Lord is upon all nations, and his fury upon all their armies: he hath utterly destroyed them, he hath delivered them to the slaughter.

3 Their slain also shall be cast out, and their stink shall come up out of their carcases, and the mountains shall be melted with their blood.

4 And all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 34, VS 1-4

1 All inhabitants of the earth—listen!!! 2-4 This is describing the “Day of the Lord” when He judges all people, recreates the heavens and earth, and resurrects and takes His people to be with Him forever.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 34, VS 5-6

5 For my sword shall be bathed in heaven: behold, it shall come down upon Idumea, and upon the people of my curse, to judgment.

6 The sword of the Lord is filled with blood, it is made fat with fatness, and with the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of the kidneys of rams: for the Lord hath a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Idumea.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 34, VS 5-6

5 The word that the word for sword was derived from denotes a lack of water, a drought, and the barrenness after a drought. We are the swords of God. We were dry until we were filled with the Holy Spirit and “bathed in heaven” 6 The Lord is fed up with “fatness” of the people—loving the pleasures of this world and hypocritically offering sacrifices to Him without giving Him their hearts. (Deuteronomy 10:16)

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 34, VS 7 &8

7 And the unicorns shall come down with them, and the bullocks with the bulls; and their land shall be soaked with blood, and their dust made fat with fatness.

8 For it is the day of the Lord’s vengeance, and the year of recompences for the controversy of Zion.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 34, VS 7-8

These people will go down with their worldly possessions, because He wants our total attention on Him, not on the things of this world.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 34, VS 9-10

9 And the streams thereof shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch.

10 It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever: from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 34, VS 9-10

The streams of Jesus Living Water, which each of us could get from Him, when someone turns from Him with no repentance, in favor of the things of this world, the streams become rivers of pitch, or passageways for satan’s lies instead of Christ’s loving messages, then our souls “lie waste”.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 34, VS 11-13

11 But the cormorant and the bittern shall possess it; the owl also and the raven shall dwell in it: and he shall stretch out upon it the line of confusion, and the stones of emptiness.

12 They shall call the nobles thereof to the kingdom, but none shall be there, and all her princes shall be nothing.

13 And thorns shall come up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in the fortresses thereof: and it shall be an habitation of dragons, and a court for owls.”

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 34, VS 11-13

11 satan’s demons will possess these people, they will nurture confusion and emptiness, which we always feel without Christ. 12-13 And these people will look to leaders of this world, and of nominal churches, and none will answer the problem, for these, too, are the domain of the emotions and materialistic mindset.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 34, VS 14-15

14 The wild beasts of the desert shall also meet with the wild beasts of the island, and the satyr shall cry to his fellow; and the screech owl also shall find rest there, and find for herself a place of rest.

15 There shall the great owl make her nest, and lay, and hatch, and gather under her shadow: there shall the vultures also be gathered, every one with her mate.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 34, VS 14-15

“The wild beasts of the desert shall meet with the wild beasts of the island” When God’s people stray from Him, and don’t see Him through spiritual eyes, they come down to the level of this world, and its hard sometimes to tell a Christian from a non believer. They shall “meet”. Christians should stand out in the world with their love, and not be, nor appear to be, a part of the rest of the world. Owls have a habit of inhabiting other birds’ abandoned nests. When we vacate our hearts of the constant companionship of Jesus, owls (representative of satan’s influence, whether in small or large amounts) will move in and nest, and these influences will grow if our hearts aren’t occupied with the things of God and the Fruits of the Spirit.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 34, VS 16-17

16. Seek ye out of the book of the Lord, and read: no one of these shall fail, none shall want her mate: for my mouth it hath commanded, and his spirit it hath garnered them.

17 And he hath cast the lot for them, and his hand hath divided it unto them by line: they shall possess it for ever, from generation to generation shall they dwell therein.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 34, VS 16-17

God challenges His people to look in His Book, and find His promises and assures us that every one He will keep. These are beautiful verses of reassurance for us. Everything in His Word will find its mate in reality, for everything God says will come about!! He commands it, and the Holy Spirit brings it about in our lives, provided we are totally abandoned to Him. In verse 17, He tells of the sacrifice Jesus made to bring us these promises, and how much of it was fulfilled, line by line, in His time on earth, and all of that is given to us, and to our descendents, as we dwell in Him.
