ISAIAH, CHAPTER 29, VS 14-24

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 29, VS 14-15

“Therefore, behold, I will proceed to do a marvelous work among this people, even a marvelous work and a wonder: for the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the understanding of their prudent men shall be hid.

15 Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the Lord, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?”

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 29, VS 14-15

v. 14– God is doing a “marvelous work and wonder” right now!! He is doing it through people the world sees as foolish or common, or uneducated, not through those thought of as wise leaders. (See Jeremiah 33:7-11)

15— Here He is speaking of people who “do their own thing” and think God doesn’t see. They pretend to be religious, but God knows their inner thoughts and feelings.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 29, VS 16-18

16 Surely your turning of things upside down shall be esteemed as the potter’s clay: for shall the work say of him that made it, He made me not? or shall the thing framed say of him that framed it, He had no understanding?

17 Is it not yet a very little while, and Lebanon shall be turned into a fruitful field, and the fruitful field shall be esteemed as a forest?

18 And in that day shall the deaf hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity, and out of darkness.”

APPLICATION:  CHAPTER 29, VS 16-18

v. 16– These people think they know more than God and are the pots telling the potter how to work. Their minds are on God, but they are bound by the spirit of religion, and their hearts are not free to hear from Him.

v. 17– God pours out His Spirit on His people and our seeds of faith will grow into a field, then a forest!!

v. 18– Then people will understand His Word through the Holy Spirit.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 29, VS 19-21

“19 The meek also shall increase their joy in the Lord, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

20 For the terrible one is brought to nought, and the scorner is consumed, and all that watch for iniquity are cut off:

21 That make a man an offender for a word, and lay a snare for him that reproveth in the gate, and turn aside the just for a thing of nought.”

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 29, VS 19-21

v. 19– The meek and common people will feel His power and rejoice!

v. 20– The proud leaders will not understand His Word.

21– They that make people feel guilty over nit-picky details of the law–who lay traps for people who really are following Christ, and turn aside the just man for some tiny, unimportant law.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 29, VS 22-24

22 “Therefore thus saith the Lord, who redeemed Abraham, concerning the house of Jacob, Jacob shall not now be ashamed, neither shall his face now wax pale.

23 But when he seeth his children, the work of mine hands, in the midst of him, they shall sanctify my name, and sanctify the Holy One of Jacob, and shall fear the God of Israel.

24 They also that erred in spirit shall come to understanding, and they that murmured shall learn doctrine.”

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 29, VS 22-24

v. 22– Now, Jacob, and our Forefathers, won’t have to be ashamed of their descendants who have found Christ.(both Jew and Gentile)

v. 23– When Jacob sees God’s children “in the midst of (Jesus)”—us in Him, and Him in us–We shall all praise the God of Israel! That time is here! (Ezek. 37:26-28)

24– Eventually even the leaders and people who were blind shall come to understanding through the Holy Spirit.
