ISAIAH, CHAPTER 45

CHAPTER 45

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 45, VS 1-3

 Thus saith the Lord to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut;

2 I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron:

3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the Lord, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 45, VS 1-3

He is telling us He wants to do everything for us. The “gates of brass and bars of iron” are bondages we have been kept in. Jesus (symbolized in Cyrus, because Cyrus built the temple –see application for 44:28) will break them for us. He says He calls us by our name. OH! The beauty of that! He knows us inside and out, and He knew us the minute we were conceived (Isaiah 44:24 and Jeremiah 1:5)

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 45, VS 4

For Jacob my servant’s sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 45, VS 4

He said He has surnamed us. He has given us His Name! We are in His family, and what a family to be in!!! He gives this all to us, even though we many times don’t act like children of the Almighty. Once the reality of this sinks into our hearts, and we realize the tremendous position we’ve been given, we can do nothing else, but devote our lives and hearts to Him, and stand on all the promises and victories He has won for us!! PRAISE THE LORD!

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 45, VS 5

I am the Lord, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 45, VS 5

Our God–The Supreme God of gods–The Almighty Power of the Universe–has taken us as His children and clothed us with His robe– with His love and righteousness–to clothe someone in your clothes is a strong outward sign of totally giving oneself to another. God has given Himself to us to a degree that our minds just cannot comprehend!!! Still, we don’t know Him! He repeats this in v. 4 &5. He laments that His people don’t open themselves totally to be intimately close to Him, abiding in Him as vine and branches. (John 15:1-5)

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 45, VS 6

That they may know from the rising of the sun, and from the west, that there is none beside me. I am the Lord, and there is none else.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 45, VS 6

In v. 5 He speaks to us directly. Here He speaks of “they”.

We who have been clothed by Him are to let others know of His love and not only tell them to turn to Him, but be transparent witnesses of His great love. We should be salt and light, (Mt 5:13-16) witnesses in word and action in our daily lives, so that others will know.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 45, VS 7

I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 45, VS 7

The Lord is creator of Everything!! Still, He yearns for our love, and gave Himself for us~~truly AMAZING GRACE!

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 45, VS 8

Drop down, ye heavens, from above, and let the skies pour down righteousness: let the earth open, and let them bring forth salvation, and let righteousness spring up together; I the Lord have created it.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 45, VS 8

These are the gifts of righteousness through Jesus Christ. He brought righteousness to the whole world to be used by those who accept it. The Holy Spirit is here even now, if we will choose to abide in Christ so we can feel and hear Him.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 45, VS 9-10

Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands?

10 Woe unto him that saith unto his father, What begettest thou? or to the woman, What hast thou brought forth?

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 45, VS 9-10

We are what the Lord makes us—whatever He has planned for us in our lives. We have no right to tell Him how to work (Romans 9:21). When we are totally submitted to Him, we want HIS will, whatever that is, and not our own.

Some modern preachers say we need to pray for much money, and be specific about what we want. This is truly demonic!!! First, we shouldn’t have our minds on the idols of material things, (Matthew chapter 6) and secondly, God will give us our needs when and if He, in His great wisdom, deems we need it.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 45, VS 11

Thus saith the Lord, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 45, VS 11

He wants us, however, to come to Him concerning everything in our lives, not to tell Him how to do it, but to put ourselves into His hands, and His plan for each of us and the world as a whole. He has promised to communicate with us when we are abiding in Him in His Holy Spirit, and He wants us to

take advantage of that, and “put me in remembrance” Isaiah 43:26)—which is what He means by “command”. We need to study Scripture so we know what He has promised so we can fully participate in our relationship with Him.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 45, VS 12

I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded.

3 I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways: he shall build my city, and he shall let go my captives, not for price nor reward, saith the Lord of hosts.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 45, VS 12-13

He has created man, and has raised us up again after our fall, unto righteousness and power, and He will direct all our ways. We will build His city and let go the captives by spreading the gospel, and we won’t be rewarded for our works, we do it out of love for Him. We have already gotten our undeserved reward!!

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 45, VS 14

Thus saith the Lord, The labour of Egypt, and merchandise of Ethiopia and of the Sabeans, men of stature, shall come over unto thee, and they shall be thine: they shall come after thee; in chains they shall come over, and they shall fall down unto thee, they shall make supplication unto thee, saying, Surely God is in thee; and there is none else, there is no God.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 45, VS 14

The people of the world, who are captives of satan, without the salvation of Christ, will see His Peace in us and be turned to Him.

SCRIPTURES: CHAPTER 45, VS 15

Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 45, VS 15

Sometimes it seems when things go wrong, that God is “hiding”, but He certainly is always with us! Our human weakness causes us to doubt sometimes. (Matthew 28:20) Sometimes He lets us feel abandoned so that we seek Him more deeply. He always knows what we need at all times to grow in Him.

Sometimes, also, when we are being a blessing to God, satan will deceive us and harass us by making God seem to be hiding. He also hides Himself from the unsaved, to make them understand that their coming to Him must be in Spirit and Truth. If it were easy, it would not be heartfelt nor would it last.

SCRIPTURES: CHAPTER 45, VS 16

They shall be ashamed, and also confounded, all of them: they shall go to confusion together that are makers of idols.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 45, VS 16

Those people who are of this world and think material things important, (makers of idols) are inevitably confused without the peace of Christ.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 45, VS 17

But Israel shall be saved in the Lord with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 45, VS 17

But we are saved by Him and have the peace of Christ.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 45, VS 18

For thus saith the Lord that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the Lord; and there is none else.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 45, VS 18

He made the earth to be inhabited by those in His image and likeness, and not to be desolate, not to be inhabited by people who are spiritually dead—He wants all people alive in the Spirit, and that is who will be inhabiting the new earth at the end of time.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 45, VS 19

I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the Lord speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 45, VS 19

God has never hidden His Words—Nor His Love!!! He yearns for all to know Him intimately, and His Words are clear to those who truly seek to learn of Him.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 45, VS 20

Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 45, VS 20

He wants us to gather together—we that are disconnected from this world, and have our eyes on

Him. The people of this world don’t realize that God gave them everything and they think first of

the things of this world, and ignore Him who made these things for them, and will also save their souls, if they will truly turn to Him.

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 45, VS 21

Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the Lord? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 45, VS 21

We are to tell these people—spread the Good News, and bring them to Christ. Let them look at it

and discuss where these things of this world really come from. When they open their hearts, they

will see the Truth, and see that……

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 45, VS 22

Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 45, VS 22

The only way to be saved is through Christ (John 3:16-17, 1John 4:9)

SCRIPTURE: CHAPTER 45, VS 23-25

I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

24 Surely, shall one say, in the Lord have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed.

25 In the Lord shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 45, VS 23-25

A portion of this is often quoted, but not all of it.

God has sworn by Himself—He did this when he made the covenant with Abraham. He is

the greatest power, therefore one cannot swear by anything greater. We can be sure it will

happen exactly as He says. EVERY promise in the Word—EVERYTHING He ever told

us in our Spirits….It all will happen. It can’t be any other way!!!!
