ISAIAH CHAPTER 8, VS 14-22

SCRIPTURE CHAPTER 8, VS 14-19

14 And he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offense to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

15 And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.

16 Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.

17 And I will wait upon the Lord, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.

18 Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from the Lord of hosts, which dwelleth in mount Zion.

19 And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 8, VS 14-19

14-15– Here He refers to Jesus, the Stumbling Block to those who don’t believe. (1Cor. 1:23)

16-18 Particularly v. 18, is Jesus speaking. Of course, we know that the Jews have been blinded until the time is right, and gentiles have been grafted in, but we ourselves, are also blinded in our lives, and, turning immediately to the Lord will bring us back and clear things up, as he molds us inside. He is given for signs and wonders on earth, but He says, that His children are also for signs and wonders. We are truly wondrously made, and He remakes us every time we go to Him with a true heart.

In v. 19, He is saying that sometimes even His children go to others for advice….maybe to familiar spirits (hopefully not) but many times to the lesser spirits of the world, seeking advice from non believers, instead of the Lord Himself, which can wreak havoc in our lives!

SCRIPTURE CHAPTER 8, VS 20-22

20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.

21 And they shall pass through it, hardly bestead and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.

22 And they shall look unto the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and they shall be driven to darkness.

APPLICATION: CHAPTER 8, VS 20-22

20—Continuing from verse 19, He is saying why do His people seek wisdom from the world, and evil spirits, instead of His Word and His Holy Spirit?

It is because those who continually turn that way are not true Christians, and have no light in them. (John 8:12)

21-22– Those that don’t know Jesus have no light in them. (John 8:12 and 12:35)Jesus said this. “They shall pass through it.” They hear about Jesus but don’t see the light, even though they’re greatly in need of His word and love and hungry for it, but instead of turning to Jesus for the answer they curse God and look to this world for the answer to their frustrations, and, even though it is darkness instead of light, they go for it, and are driven to darkness.
